Below you will find troubleshooting instructions for the M58 not heating up. There are 2 different sections, one for the coffee boiler not heating and one for the steam boiler not heating.
Coffee Boiler Not Heating: If the coffee boiler isn’t heating you should follow along with these steps to see what may be causing the issue.
Is the PID on? If the PID is not on follow along with our guide here on PID troubleshooting.
Is the red heating element light on the lower right side of the machine illuminated? If the red light is on that means the machine is trying to heat. If the light is off that means the machine is not currently trying to heat. Move on to the next steps to figure out what may be causing this to happen
The safety switch may be tripped. Inside the machine you will find that the safety switch is on top of the coffee boiler. The safety switch is the small circular tan piece with 2 wires connected to it and a red button in the center. If this is tripped the machine will not heat, press the red button down to reset it and test the machine to see if it will work. You can find panel removal instructions here: M58 Panel Removal.
The element is faulty. If you have a multimeter, you will be able to test the 2 legs of the element to see if the element has failed. If you are reading 1 or OL resistance then the element is likely damaged and needs to be replaced. If this is the case, send us an email at email@example.com or give us a call at 503-406-6171. Steam Boiler Not Heating: If the steam boiler is not heating then follow along with these steps to ensure proper function of the different parts of the steam boiler.
Is the steam boiler currently on? Check the switch on the bottom left side of the machine, it should be in the on position. Power is shown by the white light above the switch being on. The red light will be illuminated if the steam boiler is currently heating.
The coffee boiler isn’t fully heated. If your machine is in 15 amp mode, it will require that the coffee boiler is fully heated before supplying power to the steam boiler to heat. Allow the coffee boiler to fully heat, and then give the steam boiler enough time to fully heat up as well.
The safety switch may be tripped. There is a safety switch on top of the steam boiler that can be reset if it’s tripped. The safety switch is the small circular tan piece with 2 wires connected to it and a red button in the center. Press the button on the center of the safety switch to reset it.
The element may be broken. If the safety switch is not tripped, you may have a faulty element. You can test for this with a multimeter if you have one available. If you are reading 1 or OL resistance then the element is likely damaged and needs to be replaced. If this is the case send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call at 503-406-6171. You can also find replacement instructions here: M58 Steam Boiler Element Replacement
